Serie A giants open to signing Barcelona misfit on loan — report

Just a year after his move to Barcelona, Miralem Pjanic could be on his way out. The Bosnian international arrived at Camp Nou last summer from Juventus in a convoluted deal that saw Arthur Melo move the other way.

The deal, though, has not panned out as planned for any of the parties involved. Indeed, Pjanic found himself behind the likes of Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, and the young Pedri in the pecking order under Ronald Koeman in his debut season.

Even teenage midfielder Ilaix Moriba, who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, seemed to get more minutes than Pjanic towards the latter stages of the season.

Having started just six La Liga games in 2020/21, the 31-year-old is clearly not high on the preference list of Koeman. In fact, the Dutchman is said to have informed the club to sell Pjanic this summer. And, Mundo Deportivo reports that there is a distinct possibility that Pjanic ends up returning to Juventus.

The Bianconeri are now back under the management of Massimiliano Allegri, under whom Pjanic had flourished in Turin. Heading into the new season, the Serie A bigwigs are keen on bolstering their midfield, with Manuel Locatelli of Sassuolo being the primary target.

However, the Old Lady would be open to the prospect of re-signing Pjanic even if they secure Locatelli’s transfer. Another player exchange deal could be worked out between Barcelona and Juventus, with the latter willing to offer Adrien Rabiot or Rodrigo Bentancur as part of the transfer.

In case Barcelona are unwilling to accept such an arrangement, Juventus would consider signing Pjanic on loan. And, it seems like a deal of that nature would appeal to the midfielder as well. Indeed, the veteran star has informed Juve of his wish to return to the club, as reported by RAC1.

To state the obvious, the move to Barcelona simply has not worked out for Pjanic. And, a parting of ways seems a certainty this summer. Whether this ends up with the Bosnian international returning to his old stomping grounds at Juventus remains to be seen.
