The midfield trio of Sergio Busquests, Pedri, and Frenkie De Jong have played almost all the minutes lately including club and international football. In their next fixture, Barcelona would be facing the 16th placed Valladolid which gives the Dutch manager a perfect opportunity to provide much-needed rest to his midfield. According to Mundo Deportivo, Ronald Koeman will look to rotate the midfield by using Sergi Roberto.
The midfielder turned right back will be seen in his natural position after a long time. The Catalan midfielder will surely look to establish himself once again in the team after spending two long injury spells on the sidelines. Sergino Dest has grown immensely in Koeman’s new system which will make it pretty difficult for Roberto to displace him. The emergence of Oscar Mingueza at full-back has also added a lot to the team’s depth.
The biggest plus point that Roberto’s inclusion brings is his connection with Jordi Alba, Messi, and Busquests. He is also more dynamic when it comes to passing and running with the ball. Roberto was in a good run of form before his unfortunate injury against Atletico Madrid and then a relapse against Granada. The midfielder turned fullback had a goal and two assists to his name in just 12 appearances.
Out of the four long-term absentees, it seems that only Roberto will make the cut against Valladolid. Pique is rumored to be motivated to be back in time for the El Clasico, however, the cup final is a more realistic date. The status of Ansu Fati became pretty clear with his message on Instagram yesterday. We will not see him in the Barça shirt again this season. As for Coutinho, there are chances that we have seen him play his last match in the famous Garnet and Blue jersey.
The Catalan club has currently 11 games left this season, which includes 10 league games and a cup final against Athletic Bilbao. These upcoming games hold utmost importance as they will decide how many trophies will Koeman win in his first season. Barça will surely look to mark what has been a season of immense improvement with some silverware.
