There has been a lot of activity for Barcelona in the transfer market recently, with the Catalans trying to reinforce the team as much as possible for next season, while simultaneously trying to wriggle out of a massive financial crisis by making sales and renegotiating contracts.
SPORT are now reporting that one of the players on Barcelona’s long list of transfers out now has a potential suitor, with Wolverhampton Wanderers eyeing midfielder Carles Alena for a potential move this summer.
Alena has largely struggled to establish himself in the first team and has not had enough opportunities to do so over the past couple of years. He has not cemented a place at the club in a competitive midfield despite possessing all the attributes desired in a Barcelona midfielder, having to spend loan stints at Real Betis and Getafe.
He has enjoyed success with Getafe however, and has gradually become a loved figure among the fans and also the Madrid-based side’s technical staff and board. In fact, Getafe president Angel Torres even said that they will try to get Alena to stay next season if Barcelona do not have a place for him, but there is no such agreement yet.
The reported offer from Wolves is supposedly around eight million euros. While it is not a large sum, it will be tough to get many better deals for the 23-year old given his lack of experience at the highest level.
The report also highlights that there was an offer for winger Francisco Trincao a week ago from the Wolves. Barcelona have done business with the Premier League outfit before, selling Nelson Semedo to them for 30 million euros plus variables.
Alena reportedly has offers from La Liga clubs like Valencia, Granada and naturally Getafe too. The Blaugrana are asking for the same eight million euros from those parties as well. As of now, however, these deals are unclear. But it does look like Alena will indeed leave the club this summer as one of many exit operations.
