According to a report from Calcioromercato, Alessio Romagnoli has been offered to Barcelona by his agent Mino Raiola. The 26-year-old would be a much-needed reinforcement in Barcelona’s backline, who are currently lacking many options on the left side of central defence. Romagnoli, who has had a fantastic season, can potentially become an alternative option to Clement Lenglet.
The Italian defender’s contract runs out in 2022, and he was not the only AC Milan player offered to Barça by Raiola, who also discussed the potential signing of star goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who can potentially join as a free agent. While Marc-Andres ter Stegen is certainly untouchable, Donnarumma can be brought in to offer competition to the German keeper, who has most definitely suffered an injury-stricken campaign to be forgotten. However, the possibility of the Italian goalkeeper joining Barça is perhaps lower than that of Romagnoli.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed a fairly impressive campaign with Milan, and is being offered to several top clubs in hopes of finding bigger billings for his talent. In addition, he is left-footed, meaning he will be highly suited for Barça, who are short on left-footed centre-backs, and are desperate to sign a world-class defender. Barça’s defence has been their Achilles heel all season, meaning that Romagnoli could be one among a host of options brought in to reinforce their defence. Other options include the likes of Eric Garcia or Emerson Royal.
The Italian defender is 1.88m tall, meaning he will bring good physical advantages to Barça’s left-side. Among a host of options such as Pau Torres, Lisandro Martinez and others, Romagnoli is on the Catalan club’s radar to strengthen the left centre-back position, where they are seriously short of options.
If they are to sign any one of these options, it is likely that Samuel Umtiti, who is on rather high wages with barely any fitness, will have to make way and depart Catalonia in search of minutes elsewhere. With Clement Lenglet himself not being at his best level, it is crucial that the Blaugranas strenghten their left-footed options in defence.
