According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez has caught Barcelona’s eye. The Colombian central defender has already been linked to Barcelona in the past, but to looks like he may push for a change of clubs this summer.
After a disastrous showing against Newcastle, Sanchez and his Spurs teammates were subjected to some rather harsh digs aimed at them by coach Jose Mourinho. After the 2-2 draw at St. James’ Park, Mourinho did not hold back when responding to criticism about being unable to defend a lead, which has been the Portuguese manager’s forte throughout his career.
“Same coach, different players,” said Mourinho in his post match press conference. He also made specific comments about the defense and some of the players’ abilities while analysing Newcastle’s equalizer. One of the said players seems to be Davinson Sanchez, who had a very poor outing.
Sanchez’s current contract with Tottenham runs on till 2024. However, he is reportedly one of seven players that Mourinho wants to offload in the summer. The 24-year old Colombian has already proven he can play at a top club at a young age, drawing Barcelona towards him aside from Eric Garcia, whose signing seems to have gotten a bit complicated.
Sanchez has already been linked to Barcelona previously in the summer of 2017 when he was an Ajax player. Still, Spurs managed to secure his services for 42 million euros in that window. Now, however, regardless of the Eric Garcia saga, Barcelona may have to look into alternative defensive options.
But Barcelona will have to weigh up their options. Considering that Sanchez has three years left on his contract, he may not be the most economical option.
