Sport has predicted its lineups for the El Clasico scheduled for tomorrow. According to the Catalan newspaper, Barcelona will be playing their usual 3-5-2, a formation that has reaped exceptional results in the big games. Meanwhile, Zidane will continue with his classic 4-3-3 after a dominant display against the English Champions.
One of the biggest problems that Barça faced until the match against Sevilla in the league was their lack of ability to break the defenses of a top-quality team. However, Koeman’s revolutionary 3-5-2 allowed the team to play with more width and perfect utilization of the Catalan club’s attacking fullbacks, Jordi Alba and Sergino Dest.
Ronald Araujo has not started a single game since his return, however, a difficult game against Madrid might be the perfect opportunity for him to get going from the first minute. This will see Frenkie De Jong move back to his usual position in the center of the pitch.
Another result of this switch could be Griezmann moving to the bench, a spectacle that has been common in Barcelona’s big games this season. Pique did complete a full session with the team yesterday, however, it’s very unlikely that Ronald Koeman will risk starting him after a long layoff.
The other two starters in the midfield will be Pedri and Sergio Busquests. The team will be completed by a front two consisting of Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi.
Predicted Lineup Barcelona: Ter Stegen, Dest, Araujo/Pique, Mingueza, Lenglet, Alba, Busquests, De Jong, Pedri, Dembele, Messi
Los Blancos will be without their starting center backs, Raphael Varane, and the club captain, Sergio Ramos. Before the International break, Zidane also shifted to a 3-5-2 formation rewarding Nacho, who performed brilliantly in Ramos’s absence. However, Ramos and Varane will both be out for the match, meaning that the French manager is left only with Eder Militao and Nacho at the back.
Lucas Vazquez will surely continue at the right-back position in the absence of Dani Carvajal. Ferland Mendy will start as a left-back; ahead of the defense will be Madrid’s brilliant midfield trio of Casemiro, Luka Modric, and Toni Kroos. Like the situation at the back, Zidane doesn’t have many options in the front too, which means that he will continue with Vinicius, Karim Benzema, and Marco Asensio.
Predicted Lineup Real Madrid: Courtois, Vazquez, Militao, Nacho, Mendy, Casemiro, Kroos, Modric, Asensio, Vinicius, Benzema
Tomorrow’s tie will be one of the most important fixtures in the build-up to the race for the league title. Only two points separate these eternal rivals. As Atletico Madrid continues to lose points, both the Spanish powerhouses will be looking to get better at each other in order to solidify their position on the table. This tie will also see a reunion of Florentino Perez and Joan Laporta exactly after 10 years.
