After a bitter defeat in the Champions League final at the hands of Chelsea, Manchester City pair Eric Garcia and Sergio Aguero, whose moves to Barcelona have been long-awaited, have finally arrived in the city to finalise their transfers, as reported by SPORT and Mundo Deportivo today.
In what has been a summer of seemingly endless free transfers for Barcelona, confirmations of Aguero and Garcia’s moves are now merely a formality, as the agreements were reached a long time ago. After the Champions League’s conclusion, the two City players should now be unveiled very soon.
Garcia came close to a move even in January of this year, while Aguero’s decision to leave Manchester City at the end of this season fast-tracked negotiations for the Argentine. The media now reports that the coming week will be very busy in terms of transfer activity.
After Garcia and Aguero, Barcelona will reportedly focus on finalising the deal for Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and bringing back Emerson Royal from Real Betis. The former was coy when asked about the move, but it is only a matter of time before he is officially announced to the public too.
The question of Aguero’s announcement remains a matter of when, since he is due to join the Argentine national squad ahead of the qualifiers and Copa America.
The papers also laud the Barcelona Women’s team for sealing a historic treble after winning the women’s Spanish cup. A proud moment for the club, who now become the first organisation to win trebles with the men’s and women’s teams. A truly wonderful achievement.
