Breaking reports from reliable media outlet RAC1 have indicated that Neymar once again wishes to return to Barcelona. The Brazilian winger left Camp Nou in the summer of 2017 for a record transfer fee of €222m. Failing to settle into PSG comfortably, he has been linked with a move back to Barça several times ever since he first transferred to Paris.
However, it finally seemed that the 29-year-old had found his footing in Les Rouge et Bleu after the 19/20 season. Nevertheless, reliable reports have once again come out linking the Brazilian with a move back to Catalan.
Clear intentions for the Brazilian
The reports linking him back to Barça have been certified by reliable journalist Gerard Romero, who claims that the Brazilian’s intentions are clear; a move back to the Blaugrana is back on the cards. Neymar spent four seasons in the Catalan capital, enjoying tremendous success and several trophies. He had even made the Ballon d’Or podium twice, having become widely considered as one of the best footballers in the world.
A difficult time in Paris
After moving to France, Neymar has unfortunately suffered a difficult three seasons riddled with injuries that have prohibited him from progressing as a player. While the Brazilian has learned to drop deep and dictate play much like his former teammate Lionel Messi, he never quite found the same consistency which he’d enjoyed in the Blaugrana shirt.
Desire to reunite with Messi
Apart from just injuries, it seems that Neymar has never stopped missing his former teammate Messi. In fact, in December 2020, Neymar spoke to ESPN regarding his desires to play with the Argentinian once again. He said, “I want to play with Messi again, it’s what I want the most. I want to enjoy being on the pitch with him again. For sure next year we have to do it.”
When the Brazilian maestro was at Barça, he had a knack for combining with Messi to create sparks of unmatchable football. Therefore, it is only natural that he wishes to share a football pitch with him once again.
According to Diari Ara, Neymar decided to freeze contract renewal talks with Les Parisiens when Messi himself told the Brazilian that he wishes to continue with Barça. Consequently, the 29-year-old winger wishes to come back, with the possibility of adapting to the new economic structure of the club.
Possible, but difficult
A transfer for Neymar back to Camp Nou seems possible but very difficult. For instance, several issues such as negotiations with a stubborn PSG as well as Barça’s dire financial situation will make such a deal difficult. In addition, the Garnet and the Blue are in hot pursuit of other younger and more promising prospects such as Erling Haaland.
With an abundance of wingers already in the squad, signing a world-class number nine may be a wiser move for the Catalan club. However, when such a player as Neymar presents his desires to play for a certain club, it is almost impossible that they will not be interested. The Brazilian forward remains one of the best players in the world, and Joan Laporta will surely not want to pass on him if given the opportunity.
