In a press conference held at the Barcelona offices today, Joan Laporta has announced the much-awaited news about Ronald Koeman’s continuity at Barcelona, confirming that the Dutchman will remain at the helm of the club for at least next season as well.
“We have come to the conclusion that Koeman’s continuity is the best option for Barça. I see him motivated, excited and with the right mentality,” Laporta said.
Koeman took over from the departed Quique Setien, who was sacked after Barcelona’s defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League in the 2019/20 season. With the club under a huge transition period, they were certainly tough times. Not to forget the financial condition, and the lack of a competent administration under Josep Bartomeu.
However, under the situation, Koeman delivered and exciting fight for the La Liga title and the Copa del Rey trophy. In addition, the 58-year-old received plaudits for his inclusion of youngsters, and improving the team’s mentality.
With the transfers of Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, Emerson complete, and Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum underway, next season holds a lot of hope for Barcelona. With the right support, Koeman’s team can go all the way, at least on the domestic front.
