According to today’s edition of SPORT, Barcelona have already begun working towards a new deal for their young starlet Pedri Gonzalez. The midfielder has been a revelation since arriving from Las Palmas back in the summer of 2020 and the club is delighted with his services.
In Ronald Koeman’s new look Barcelona side, driven by a generation of massively talented young players, Pedri has undoubtedly been the biggest standout. He has been a fabulous addition to the midfield, providing a breath of fresh air and creativity.
Pedri has been a lifelong Barcelona fan and stated that his move to the club from Las Palmas was a dream come true. Since then, the teenager has instantly earned Koeman’s trust, becoming a fundamental part of the starting XI.
The Canarian has since made 43 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing six assists during that time. And he only seems to be growing in class and confidence with each passing day.
Barcelona, according to today’s report, now believe that the youngster already deserves a new deal, which would be a more fair reflection of his stellar performances. His current deal with the Catalans expires on the 30th of June in 2022, but there is an optional clause to extend it by a further two years.
Pedri arrived from Las Palmas at a reported cost of just five million euros, which has since been debunked as there were plenty of variables in the deal, which would end up netting his former side upwards of 25-30 million euros. Even so, given his contributions, 30 million is almost a bargain.
His current deal reportedly earns him about 34,000 euros a week, but now it looks like that number, alongside his already hefty 400 million euro release clause, will see a significant rise. Barcelona will also look to tie him down to a much lengthier deal.
