In a recent clip published by El Chiringuito TV, Laporta speaks on the situation regarding Lionel Messi’s contract renewal. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner had endured a rough summer last year, wanting an exit from the club. Eventually, the previous board spearheaded by Bartomeu had blocked his exit out of the Camp Nou.
Now, the situation is different, with Messi seemingly enjoying his football at Barcelona once again. The team has been injected with fresh blood and the coming of the new generation.
Mingueza, Dest, Araujo, Pedri, Moriba, Dembele, and de Jong have all played a great role in the reformation of the team. While results are still not yet optimal, the future looks bright, with the club being home to several young talents.
Accordingly, it seems that the chances of Messi staying have gradually increased throughout the season. Speaking on the same, Laporta was captured saying, “Everything is progressing adequately.”
Culés around the world are hopeful that the Argentinian opts to stay at Camp Nou. He has been at this club for his entire life, and it would be a rather unfortunate ending if he were to leave. Nonetheless, it is also agreed that Messi should do what he feels is best for his career.
However, Barca great Yaya Touré also seems to want Messi to stay at the Catalan club, speaking on it recently.
He said, “I hope Messi stays at Barça, he’s a special player. I don’t see him outside of Barcelona, Laporta has to do everything, he has to understand that Messi must continue, he must be like Maldini or Totti, players from a single club.”
We hope that the 33-year-old forward feels the same way, as he has a fair few years left at the top level, at the very least.
