Barcelona advantageous to sign Haaland as Raiola rules out move to two favourite clubs

Dani Alves is highly regarded as one of the best fullbacks of all time and is a club legend at Football Club Barcelona. The Brazilian spent a highly successful eight campaigns at the Catalan club, before finally exiting in the summer of 2016 after having a fallout with the board at the time, whose president was Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Recently, the fullback took to social media to once again criticize Bartomeu and his former board, after having done so several times already. When asked about his opinion on Bartomeu’s board on a Q&A forum on Instagram, Alves showed no politeness.

He said, “I didn’t believe in the leaders who were there. Then it turned out I was right, but I was the first person to say that. They called me crazy but, as always, I’m a good madman.” (via Cat Radio)

The Brazilian defender was indeed the first player to leave the club out of a grudge with the former board, soon followed by his fellow Brazilian compatriot Neymar, in the following summer.

While things seemed fine at the club for a few years after 2015, it turns out that Alves was right regarding his opinion on the board, as their mismanagement led to the severe deterioration of the club. On many levels – mainly sporting and financial – Bartomeu’s board failed to steer the club on the right course.

La Masia talents were neglected and sent away, used mainly for marketing purposes. The club made several large signings without taking the opinion of the coaches, splurging nine-figure transfer sums on three different players (Dembele, Coutinho, and Griezmann).

Furthermore – as is apparent from Alves’ relationship with them – the former board had a terrible relationship with the squad, even linked to the media company I3 Ventures in a scandal where social media campaigns were launched against the first-team squad’s so-called “heavyweights” who stripped the board of their power; essentially, Bartomeu attempted to shift all the blame of the club’s failures onto the players’ shoulders.

It seems that Alves’ judgement on the former board was the first correct one; while on the outside, it seemed obvious that success was guaranteed as revenues were at an all-time high and the team could not stop winning titles, what went ignored was the initial mismanagement of the club that would only come to harm the Blaugrana several years later.

Nevertheless, Bartomeu’s board finally ended up resigning after the outrage that occurred due to the Lionel Messi transfer saga, and the Argentinian being held prisoner by the former board, and hope once again seems a near reach with the incoming of former president Joan Laporta.
